Lone Wolf Outfitting is known throughout the world for the excellent Alaska-Yukon Moose that we harvest annually. We have over 8000 sq. miles that we distribute the harvest throughout, giving hunters areas to hunt that have either never been hunted, or were not hunted for several years. We have so many remote lakes and rivers, that we have not touched 40% of our vast area. There are many different ways to hunt moose, as they are common along rivers, lakes and also high in the alpine.

Moose start to get active at the end of August/beginning of September. Now the big bulls are shed out of velvet. They are seeking out cows to start herding them into an area where they can keep their ‘eye on the ladies’. Already there is good rut action at this time (when the days are still ‘long’). From this time until mid-October it is common to see full rut activity.

Also the days are getting noticeably shorter now, and the weather gives way to freezing at night. You can spot moose easier because the leaves are falling off all the different willow, alder, aspen and poplar. As usual during their rut, moose bulls are susceptible to cow calls over long distances.

At the end of September/beginning of October, the weather might turn colder in the high country. Patterns turn towards the look of winter and snow could replace rain showers. Daylight hours are diminishing and the rut is not only in high gear, but the second estrous of the cows brings the big bull out of hiding. Bulls are still coming to cow calls, but the bull calls challenge as well. The cooler weather can contribute to an increasing rutting action during these short days.
ATV hunts are for the hunter who likes to cover a lot of different country. We have a number of areas where it is practical to get around on these machines and still make the hunt enjoyable. ATVs, as your hunting ‘companion’ (as opposed to horses) allow you to hunt with ‘the turn of a key’as early as you want. This hunt can be for the hunter who is more physically challenged, or anyone who just likes the ATVs as a part of the hunting experience. Consider that we can access the high country with our ATVs which make it easy to combine your moose hunt with a grizzly or caribou.

The jetboat-hunt was customized to the needs of a well-known and established group of North-American hunters. Their excellent experiences convinced us to offer this type of hunt: Everyday Hunter(s) will be on the river with jetboat and drift back to camp every night. Or hunter(s) drift from camp downriver with canoes to another camp and the jetboat picks them up and brings them back. The whole area is untouched wilderness with no hunting pressure at all. High chances on Moose, Caribou, Grizzly, Blackbear, Wolf and wolverine !

A very unique hunting experience is a journey to our remote lake camps. You are alone with your guide in totally untouched wilderness. Hunting pressure does not exist and all you hear is the echo of your guide’s moose call across the lake which you quietly explore in a canoe or small boat. Any one of our numerous lakes can be home for you during this 8-day hunting adventure, where the moose are just waiting to be called to a rut challenge. This is a great way to harvest a bull in country that has seen virtually no one... Grizzly , mountain caribou, wolf and wolverine are available on these hunts as well.

We have different ways to hunt the numerous rivers in our area. We may fly you into a lake and the guide and you drift down the outflowing river in a canoe, hunting unitl you reach a basecamp with your harvested trophies. Or you go up river in the morning and drift slowly, quietly down river in the afternoon and late evenings. Always calling as you go, this is a relaxing way to hunt the big bulls that come to the river in fall. This is also a good way to harvest a grizzly and a wolf on your moose hunt, as the carnivores are traveling the river frequently.
Horseback hunts are the most popular choice of hunting in Yukon. Horses are a great way to gain access into remote country that hasn’t been hunted. You are very flexible when hunting with horses, as you can hunt the lakes, rivers and mountains. There is a certain ‘romance’ involved with horseback hunting, and this is the association to Yukon that so many hunters make. Horse back is a good way to do a combination hunt, with all the species that we can offer to hunt. Many hunters that have grizzly or caribou on their list together with moose select this type of hunting.

Rifle calibers from .300 WM to .338 WM and anything in between are sufficient for this hunt. You have to remember that moose hunts often give opportunities for grizzly, caribou, black bear, wolf and wolverine. Please keep this is mind when choosing calibers. Please also see Hunt Info for a complete list of necessary equipment to bring for this hunt.
No matter which hunting method or hunt date you choose, Lone Wolf has the best moose/grizzly/caribou combination hunts in the north! Please contact us for details about a moose/combination hunt that works best for you…
